Baby!

Archimedes Tyberius Corpus made his way into the world on Saturday, April 30. I was due on April 20th, but he didnt show up then... I was scheduled to be induced on Wednesday, April 27th. I went into the hospital at 7 am. The dr started me with cytotec. This is supposed to soften the cervix because I was still not effaced or dilated. Each dose last 4 hours. So, she did one dose and was supposed to be back 4 hours later... it took her about 6 hours to get back. During this six hours, the babies heart beat was staying really steady, which apparently is a bad thing. I was also having contractions that were too close together to start another dose of cytotec. So, they started me on pitocin at like 7 at night. About one, I was having really strong contractions, but still not dilating. We turned the pit off for two hours so that I could eat and take a little break. After two hours, (this was now 4 in the morning) we turned the pit back on. At around 9 the next morning, the dr mosied on in and told me that my baby was having late decels where his heart rate was dropping after some of the contractions. She told me that she wasnt going to be able to do anything until he looked better. So, I laid in bed until about 2 pm. She gave me another dose of cytotec. I cant remember for sure when but during the three days I received 4 doses of cytotec during the process. Friday night, I was finally at about a 1 1/2. The dr broke my water, I received an epidural, and the plan was for me to be on pit for the night until the baby showed up. There was thick meconium in the water, so I was a little worried about my baby by this point, I was on pit for about two hours then the nurses told me that the baby was having decels again. They kept making me turn from side to side to try and get his heart rate to have more variety and to stop the decels. So they turned off the pit and told me when he looked better they would start them again. Then, about twenty minutes later, the nurse came in (this was about 10 at night) and told me that a lady had come in with a VBAC and that there is only one surgery team at night and since I was so close to having to have a c-section, they would have to hold off on the pitocin. I was super super mad because since my water was broken, I had until 5 pm the next day to get the baby out until I would be forced into a c-section. I had stopped having contractions and was just hanging out with an epidural and my water broken and a baby whose heart beat kept freaking out. The nurse tells me to sleep. yeah right. So, every twenty minutes she keeps coming in to tell me to turn to my other side to try and adjust the baby. I started having contractions again and he started to have really bad decels and his heart wasnt changing when I changed positions. The nurse says she has to call the dr to see what we should do.. this was like 2 am. She decided to check me to see if I had dilated at all. Much to my surprise, I was at a 4! I was so stoked. So, after another couple hours of me being turned every thirty-fourty minutes, she checked me again. At 4 am I was at a 8, by 5 I was at a 10. After 2.5 hours of pushing, my baby finally got here! He had the cord around his neck and had swallowed a ton of meconium, but after they sucked it out, he was amazing. His head was all sorts of misshapen. He's beautiful now though. He is a really good sleeper and a pretty good eater. Mostly, he's just perfect... but don't take my word for it... check him out:
