So for my Ed 201 class I have to get 30 hours "observing" at a school. I was assigned to Mr Coles 1st grade class at the moscow charter school. The school is really interesting, there are only 18 kids in the class, and they are pretty much allowed to do what ever they want while me and mr cole work with a couple of them for 10-15 minutes at a time. They are all really pretty smart kids and for the most part they actually find something productive to do with their free time. They are really funny kids though. I usually take them out into the "big room" and read with them. One of the kids, Hunter, is a really good reader, but he doesnt like to actually read the words. He will read a couple words of the sentence then proceed to make up the rest of the sentence himself. For example, the sentence was "the bird climbed the tall tall tree" but what came out of Hunter's mouth was "the bird climbed the huge ginormous mountain"... I was like... maybe but not on this page... Then, there is Emily. She was reading from the Rosa Parks story and when it talked about Rosa Parks getting arrested, I asked her if she knew what it meant to be arrested. She said "sure I do. Its when they take you, turn you around, and spray you with a HUGE fire hose" I was like.. sorta.. but not quite..
Those kids make my day. They also make me question whether or not I REALLY want to teach kids their age all day for my entire life. Im not sure I can handle it...
You need to keep a journal of all the funny things that the kids say! It will brighten your days!
